CYB CLINICS

CYB is very fortunate to have a member of our community who continues to volunteer great hours of his time to assist the youth of Claremont to develop themselves both on, and off the basketball court.  He leads our clinics that benefit 1st and 2nd graders for eight weeks of Sundays during January and February.

RICK DUQUE attended Pitzer College in Claremont and played for the Pomona-Pitzer basketball team under Gregg Popovich.  His ability on the court brought him All-American honors in his senior year playing for the Sagehens.  He was later honored in 1999 by the Pomona-Pitzer Athletic department, being inducted into their Hall of Fame.  After graduating from Pitzer, Rick has spent fourteen years coaching basketball in New Mexico, and back here in Claremont at The Webb Schools.

His enthusiasm for the sport, as well as for helping young athletes, is evident whenever you see him participating in one of the clinics, or coaching his team.  He uses all of the coaching skills he has learned over the years to build the skill sets of the young members of our community.

He especially appreciates seeing teams improve over the course of a season as they learn to play with, and support one another.  Rick has been quoted as saying that what he loves about coaching is “watching a group of 11 or 12 individuals become a team as the season progresses.  Watching them believe in one another and trust one another and helping them understand that, in life, not everything is going to be handed to you. If you want something badly enough you will need to work hard for it.  Along the way there will be some disappointments, but the team will always be there for you.”

Your children will greatly benefit from spending time with Rick and his assistants as he teaches them the fundamentals of basketball.  Make sure to register for this year's clinics prior to the September 30 deadline.
