Rules on Tiebreakers

Tie-Breaker Policies for Playoff Seeding
Revised: 5/20/2014
Protocol
- If multiple tiebreakers exist in the same league, the highest placed tie is separated first
- If an unbalanced schedule exists, losses to a lower ranked team are considered. 
Two-team ties
CRITERIA #1:Tiebreakers, in order:
- Two teams are tied with similar records
- Teams are tied for 1st place
- Teams only lost to other tied team
1. Head to head
2. Coin toss
CRITERIA #2:Tiebreakers, in order:
- Two teams are tied with similar records
- Teams are tied for 1st place
- Team(s) lost to non-tied team
1. Head to head
2. Record vs. highest place non-tied team in league
3. Record vs. next highest placed team in league
4. Repeat #3
CRITERIA #3:Tiebreakers, in order:
- Two teams are tied with similar records
- Teams are not tied for 1st place
1. Head to head
2. Record vs. highest placed team in league
3. Record vs. next highest placed team in league
4. Repeat #3
Three or more team ties
CRITERIA #4:Tiebreakers, in order:
- Three or more teams are tied with similar records
- Teams are tied for 1st place
1. Determine combined head to head record vs. other tied teams
2. If 2 teams are still tied, move to CRITERIA #2
3. Record vs. highest place non-tied team in league
4. Record vs. next highest placed team in league
5. Repeat #4
CRITERIA #5:Tiebreakers, in order:
- Three or more teams are tied with similar records
- Teams are not tied for 1st place
1. Determine combined head to head record vs. other tied teams
2. If 2 teams are still tied, move to CRITERIA #3
3. Record vs. highest place non-tied team in league
4. Record vs. next highest placed non-tied team in league
5. Repeat #4
